salmon essentials
Grab your landing nets, filet knives and all the fluorocarbon you'll need for this year's Salmon Season! You've been waiting for some time now for this day to come. Make the most of it and get the right gear.
DEEEEP LANDING NET
In California, it is illegal to use a gaff to land salmon, regardless of whether you're fishing in saltwater or freshwater. This regulation is enforced by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to ensure the humane treatment of fish and to facilitate the safe release of any undersized or out-of-season salmon. Therefore, you need to have a landing net on board when targeting salmon. You have to make sure the depth of the bag is enough for when you land your fish. Rubber coating ensures less hooks will get caught up on the netting and helps protect potentially undersized fish.
We recommend our LN-501B or LN-501BT depending on if you want a telescopic handle. Click the image to view the options!
PROPER FISHING LINE
Got to have the right line when it comes to fishing for salmon! Every angler knows, that when you hit the water every tactical advantage big or small makes a difference. The smallest big difference you can make is ensuring you're using good fluorocarbon to avoid having any fish saw you off. The knots have to hold strong and make sure that the clarity is optimal to encourage more bites.
Our GT4 100% Fluorocarbon has proven itself on fish of all varieties and it makes a big difference. Give yourself the best chance to not only hook a fish but to land it too. Click the image to check the sizes!
Fillet Knife
While you should always have a good strong knife on board at all times in case of pirates. You'll need one for all the fish you're landing with our nets and line too. The only reason you wouldn't need a fillet knife is if you're not catching fish...but that's unlike you so make sure you have one on board.
If you are looking for a knife it's especially important to have one with a spoon on the end so that you can have something to eat the fish with once you're done filleting it. But really the spoon is there to scrape off any excess meat between the bones and also to remove any roe from the fish.
